Winging It
For the most part, I like winging it when it comes to crafting. Though I do use them, patterns make me nervous. I much prefer to tackle a project by figuring it out what needs to be done and doing it, minus a pattern. I recently found an article of clothing at a thrift store that was fantastic in just about every way. There is one thing I want to change and that’s what these granny squares are for. Of course, the whole thing could be a complete failure, but I hope not. I should have it done by next week and I can’t wait to show you. Oh, and after I laid these out, I noticed how cute they would be as a granny square wreath. I might have to work on some of those for next Christmas. On a side note, my closet is almost done. Just one more stack to go through and then my clothes will be down to what I actually wear and love. Decluttering is so freeing, good thing, as I have lots more to do. Which do you prefer, working from patterns, or winging it?
I love winging it too . If I use a pattern it never turns out like the illustration and then I get really frustrated. If I make something up then I’m not comparing it to a photo of how it should look, just how I hoped it would look in my head. Hope that makes sense.
Lovely granny square BTW and you’re right, they would make a lovely Christmas wreath.
Yes, I too tend to wing it–though I think I’d save myself a lot of frustration if I used patterns more. I think there is value in following instructions from someone who has already worked out the kinks. But then again, I like the challenge of solving the problems that arise with a pattern-free project.
Your little granny squares are pretty!
I’d have to say working from a pattern, simply because I’m still a beginner really!! Can’t wait to see what the article of clothing is and what you’re going to do with it!
Definitely winging it. Maybe I’m just too impatient to deal with reading all of the instructions and using a pattern. I do use patterns on occasion, though. Can’t wait to see your finished project.
Sewing – I wing it as I pretty much know what I’m doing, but knitting I’m less confident so I stick to the pattern and am usually pleasantly surprised when I have the number of stitches the pattern says I should!
Please come round and declutter my house too!! I’m a terrible hoarder and keep things ‘just in case’!
Winging it all the way! Well done for getting the decluttering done – can’t wait to see your finished project 🙂
a wreath like this would be sooo cute!
I sometimes start off with a pattern but always end up winging it!
And the granny square wreath looks like an exciting project!!
Absolutely must have a pattern or I’m completely lost!
Love the granny square wreath–gorgeous. Another reason I must learn to crochet! Very intrigued by how you’ll be using the squares to modify your thrifting find!

ooo…can’t wait to see what youre making. And that WOULD be a great wreath!
Oh I am very much a wing it girl…
I find it hard to follow patterns as my tension must be way out or something as they never turn out like they should…
I also love the feeling of de-cluttering…
It is wonderful…
It makes room for more stuff!!!lol…
