New Makeup Bag

I love to do all sorts of different crafts. Sewing, crocheting, haven’t knit in a while, but you get the point. There are a lot of days when nothing on the crafty front happens. Marmalade Rose has issued a twenty minutes a day challenge. To do some sort of creative crafting for just twenty minutes a day. As busy as my days are, I think I can fit that in. So I’ve jumped into the challenge and here is my first accomplishment. Nothing life changing, but something small that I needed. I have had my makeup in an old plasticy zippered bag for a while and I think how much I dislike it every morning when I put my makeup on. One of my goals this year has been to do some serious decluttering as well, so this morning as I put my makeup on, I got rid of anything and everything in my bag that I know I will never use. This afternoon between lunch and resting time for the big kids, I pulled out my sewing machine and made this little zippered bag out of some vintage fabric that I love. It took a little more than twenty minutes, but that is only because I have to pull my machine out and set it up and take it down every time I want to sew. This adds some serious time, it would be so much quicker and easier if I could just leave it set up. Oh well, for now this is the way it is. I’m really pleased with it, now I have a handmade bag that I love and it only contains exactly what I use. Two birds with one stone, decluttering and beautifying. It works for me. I will continue to do some sort of crafting for 20 minutes each day, though I will probably just do a weekly overview. When I started learning how to make lined zippered bags I used this tutorial. Wish me luck, I figure if I even do just a tiny bit of decluttering and crafting a day, then at the end of a couple of months I should have accomplished quite a bit.

I love the make-up bag! I am so awful with make-up. Attracted to anything new on the market and have masses, most of which I never use. Every couple of months I de-clutter but I sem to also keep quite a bit! Silly me! I shal take a leaf out of your book and have a smaller bag to put bits in so I have only what I actually use! Trouble is, as you get older, you find yourself needing more and more in the mornings! tee hee! Have a wonderful day! xxx

Sounds like a great idea! Look forward to seeing your weekly overviews!

  3. Fantastic! Well done with the make-up bag, good idea. Forgive me if I don’t check in with you every day as I now have 19 bloggers joining in. If I check everyone every day I won’t be able to find time for my 20 minutes. Lol.
Anyway there is enough of us now to all encourage each other.

    Keep posting your work though.

    Love Fi xa.

I don’t think I’ve put a zip in since I learnt to do it during needlework lessons at school! Your bag looks super!
What are you going to make tomorrow?!

Thanks everybody. Today I think I will be working on a cover for my ipod. I can sit down this evening and work on that while Hubby and I watch a movie.

I know what you mean about having to set up the sewing machine each time. I have to do the same, and it is frustrating (and does put me off sewing a bit).

I only wish I could accomplish something so lovely in 20 minutes! Wow!

  9. I love this post… I think so many of us find it hard to find the time to do the crafting that we want. I like the 20 minute idea… totally do-able you would think.

I also love the fabric you’ve used, and love love love the combination of organisation and sewing. I wonder sometimes if my readers get bored with me making yet another drawstring bag for yet another sorting job around the home, but I don’t think I’ll tire. Hmm… must make more bags.

    Did I just ramble?! Whoops!
