Thrifted Beauty

Isn’t this piece beautiful? It was a gift from my mom after we found it on one of our Saturday morning thrift store runs a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea what it was originally intended for….. but now it is sitting beside my couch, holding lots of scrumptious wool.

This table brings back memories! My great-grandmother and her best friend had a similar piece next to their arm chairs. They used them as a place to keep their knitting and/or books they were reading.

Maybe it really was for storing your knitting by your armchair (or maybe your favourite tipple!). It is a lovely thing to find!

What a fantastic find! It must have made just for that purpose – your wool fits so perfectly!

I think it was originally a sewing box and there would have been a tray with compartments in the top, resting on the little ledge. So wool storage is very close to the intended use!

It’s lovely, I always like to think about the people who owned old things before me.

Spooky again! – I was given almost the same thing by my husband for Christmas – I was going to post about it but other things happened instead – mine has sewing stuff (and secret chocolate) inside and my knitting, some books and usually a cup of tea on top. I love the thought that I can imagine you with yours – as I sit by mine! I’ll have to send you some chocolate to hide inside! 😀

My husband’s grandmother has the same piece, and it serves the same purpose. She embellished the top with a tole painting scene. Her’s has a compartmentalized piece that is set onto the ledge. The smaller piece currently holds rocks she helped my children paint to look like ladybugs. It’s one of their favorite places to explore when we visit their great grandma. Enjoy!

You’ve got an old sewing stand – you’re using it for what it was meant to be!! What a wonderful find. Lucky girl!!
