Sorry if this makes you jealous! .... but we are in the sub-tropics of Queensland, so it is pretty easy for things to grow, as long as there is rain. My husband would have to be the main gardener of the household - I do the cleaning up and maintenance side of it. At the moment we have started our autumn plantings ... tomatoes, broccoli, eggplant, spinach, silverbeet, peas, beans, potatoes, capsicum, chillis, sweet potatoes. We have a pretty good enclosure this year which will hopefully keep out the wildlife. I'm sure your plantings will be fine - you and your family will soon reap the rewards.

I think the most important thing is just to enjoy it and not worry - When we first started growing veggies I read every book going and had advice from all over and I worried about doing it all right. It just made it stressful and didn't help when we had a wet, cold summer and everything either went mouldy or got eaten by slugs and snails! It taught me an important lesson and now I try and enjoy the process - the results are just a bonus - Good luck! :D

yes--safety in numbers. We always plant waaay too many of each, too, but then you can keep only the strongest ones. Good luck! I'm sure it'll be great this year.

This is my second year of gardening too. I was really disappointed with last year as the squirrels benefited more from our garden than we did. We're hoping to devise some solution soon. Maybe a cage over the garden?
I should probably plant some seeds soon too. I don't have a very sunny spot indoors to keep them until they're ready to be outside. Where are you keeping yours?

Love your clothespin plant markers. I am very good at growing chives, but mine have survived the winter, so no need for any seeds here.

This is what I'll be doing this weekend as well! It's also only my second year of gardening, but I think you've got the right idea: just put some seeds in the ground and let them do what they do. :)
